T-Pain Talks 'Freaknik: The Musical,' Says There's More to Come

T-PainGrammy-winning producer/singer T-Pain is a huge fan of cartoons, so when executives from Cartoon Network's Adult Swim approached him about working on a show with them, he was thrilled.

Two years later, T-Pain's one-hour animated special 'Freaknik: The Musical' is set to premiere on Adult Swim on March 7, featuring rappers Lil Wayne, Rick Ross, Snoop Dogg, Big Boi and 'Saturday Night Live' stars Andy Samberg and Bill Hader. The show tells the story of a group of teenagers attempting to bring back the legendary Atlanta spring break party, which was canceled in 1999.

"I wasn't old enough [to attend], by the time it got shut down," Pain told The BoomBox, in an exclusive interview. "It's just something that needed to be made into a cartoon, because I don't think it's ever coming back in real life."

The 25-year-old star is a huge fan of the network, having appeared as "Frylock" on his favorite show, 'Aqua Teen Hunger Force,' last year. "Yeah I don't watch anything but Adult Swim. I watch Cartoon Network all day," Pain said. "Sometimes people don't like being around me wherever it's on TV, because I won't never change it. I don't give a damn if it's a big game on. I don't even watch sports at home, if Adult come on, or Cartoon, then you're not watching it."

As for the initial partnership with the network, the auto-tune king says he was approached by the network about creating a program long before he appeared on 'SNL' or 'Aqua Teen.' "They actually came to me and asked me did I have any concepts and stuff," Pain explained. "We all sat down and came up with a bunch of concepts, and this came to be the one we can make a movie out of, so it's pretty dope."

Provided that the special is successful, T-Pain said he'll be working on more cartoons in the future. "If people like this, then this one's definitely going to turn into a series. If people really like it, we'll just keep working on the content, talk to the network and see what we got."

Look out for T-Pain's 'Freaknik: The Musical" on Cartoon Network's Adult Swim, March 7. His forthcoming album 'RevolveR' is in stores later this year.

And I had no clue T pain was a cartoon fan! Being a major cartoon fan and collector of cartoon items, it's great to hear that a big rapper actually loves cartoons!
