The Paterson, New Jersey man who will face trial for raping and impregnating his five daughters has been identified as award-winning music video director Aswad Ayinde. Ayinde, also known as Eric McGill, directed the Fugees' infamous music video, 'Killing Me Softly,' which took home an MTV Video Music Award in 1996.According to Ayinde's ex-wife, the 51-year-old father of five was convinced that he needed to create a "pure" bloodline in order to be prepared for the end of the world. "He said the world was going to end, and it was just going to be him and his offspring and that he was chosen," Beverly Ayinde testified at a court hearing.
Ayinde was able to escape the scrutiny of child welfare investigators for years by moving his family around within New Jersey and Florida from 1985 to 2002. His ex-wife admitted that he had sexual relationships with all five of his daughters, and that three birthed six children that resulted from the incestuous relationships. The former video director has also been accused of brutally beating his family in under to keep to abuse under wraps.
Ayinde was initially arrested in 2006 and has been found competent to face trial. He will fight 27 charges, including sexual assault, child endangerment, aggravated criminal sexual contact and criminal sexual contact. He is currently being held on $1 million bond.
