Paul Wall Elected Texas Chapter President of Recording Academy

Paul Wall for president! The Houston rapper was recently elected president of the Texas chapter of the Recording Academy, which organizes the Grammy Awards.

Paul Wall previously held the title of Governor of the Texas chapter, working alongside fellow Houston artists like saxophonist Joe Posada, bassist Chuck Rainey and industry veterans like Mathew Knowles.

"I've been a Governor on the board of the Texas chapter for a long time. There's a process on how you get nominated [for a Grammy] and it's done by voting," Wall said. "A lot of people don't know this and for me, I want to get our membership up in Texas."

Wall, who has been nominated for a Grammy in the past, but did not win, has always been a huge supporter of his fellow Texans, whether as a DJ, MC, jeweler or promoter. In his role as president of the Recording Academy, Wall said that he hopes to boost Grammy membership among local artists in his home state.

"There's so much credible music here in all genres and its so vast," the rapper explained. "Everything is bigger in Texas but our membership, we are like #6 on the list out of [the] 12 chapters. At the very least, there could be more nominations for artists from Texas." The self-appointed 'People's Champ' is currently working on his fifth solo album, 'The Heart Of A Champion.'

He recently made peace with his estranged partner Chamillionaire, with whom he recorded two albums, both considered to be local classics, before their falling out. Wall and Cham performed together in Austin, Texas at SXSW Wednesday night (March 17), which was the first date of their 'In Love with my Money' tour, named after a song on their 'Get Ya Mind Correct' album.
