After more than three weeks of hospitalization, due to a sudden heart attack on Feb. 28, Gang Starr MC, Guru, is now in stable condition. The rapper's publicist issued a statement on Monday (March 22) informing fans that his health is no longer at serious risk.Guru -- real name, Keith Elam -- fell into a coma following his heart attack, sparking an outpouring of support from the hip-hop community. According to reports, he has now been diagnosed with Anoxia -- a condition characterized by a lack of oxygen supply to an organ's tissues. During his hospital stay, MC Solar and Gang Starr's DJ Premier have both spoken out on behalf of the ailing rapper, but Guru admitted in a statement on Monday that he has not spoken to Premier in over seven years. "That's something I don't want to talk about," Guru said. "I don't want to talk about the past. The past is the past. It is what it is. It was great, but that was then and this is now," Guru said.
During his hospital stay, contention also arose among Guru's family members, who accused MC Solar of keeping medical details from them. Solar has refuted the allegations and continues to support his close friend during difficult times. He issued a new statement this week letting fans know that Guru has appreciated their continued support."The outpouring of love from around the world has been tremendous," Solar said. "I'm reading some of the best e-mails, texts and Twitters that come in and Guru enjoys them. I think that's what has been helping his recovery and what's got him in there fighting."
