Court Orders Kelis to Pay $5,000 for Hair Extensions

KelisApparently singer Kelis doesn't feel like she has to pay for her weave.

According to TMZ, the quirky singer received the hair extensions at an upscale salon in Santa Monica, CA last May, but for whatever reason opted not to pay the $5,000.00 bill.

The hairstylist was forced to take Kelis to court over the situation, but Nas' former angel pulled a no-show at the trial, which took place Monday, March 29, and the judge ordered that she pay the amount in full, by default.

Kelis has yet to make a statement regarding the ruling.

Charise -- Good post and good points, but you cannot go on about problems in the world being more important even if they are on this board because you are in ENTERTAINMENT news. Because you are in ENTERTAINMENT news, there are going to be stories like this one no matter how 'worthless' it is. In the ENETRTAINMENT world, IT IS news! With ALLL of the sections and types of news there is, why is there always at least 1-2 people who carry on a LONG rant for nothing on an ENTERTAINMENT news baord?? Go to the REGULAR news boards and there you can find all the misery in the world that you want to find. Some people come here to GET AWAY from the depressing news. That's sort of the point - to get AWAY from the politics and the other crummy stuff going on in the world. People need to pay attention to where they are before commenting on something that has absoluely NOTHING to do with Entertainment and/or Celebrity news.

I very seldom read these and never answer them, but this one touched a nerve!! Please let me get my points said before you jump me for them!!

Why does there ALWAYS seem to be someone expecting something for nothing because of who they are - or think they are? And why it is front page news?.

More than 24,000 children died yesterday ... where is their headline?

Question ... do you pay for your hairstyle? I do or I'd be in jail ... charged or cited at the very least!! Personally, I find $5,000 for a hair style outlandish when we have children starving in our streets, but that's just me! If you can afford it, and you choose to do so, power to you ... so long as you pay your bills!!

This has to do with not paying for hair ... it has NOTHING to do with race, creed or ideology but I find it interesting that those were dragged into the conversation quickly, disparagingly and yes, just downright ugly.

It had to do with paying your bill - with paying what you owe!! NONE of those other things!!! So how in the heck is it even appropriate that any of these topics be brought up, with the possible exception of attempting to incite and provoke hatred where only a conversation existed before??? Might not this be part of what is wrong with our country? Is this what we teach our children? How we teach them problem solving?

To clarify another point, if you receive services you are not happy with, there are processes in every State for that, beginning with filing a complaint. Depending on the State and County, it may move forward to Mediation and any number of other alternatives before ending up in Court.

And if it does end in Court (worst case situation) both parties show up in court to defend themselves ... complete with witnesses, photos, copies of correspondence, mediation, other ways of trying to settle it out of court, etc.. Usually not (as in this case) just claiming your Guilt by not showing up, so that a Judgement is issued against you.

Please, please let's move on to things that matter, and focus on the future of our children ... on how they see us interfacing with one another, and how we problem solve.

Thank you for letting me get my opinions out there. May God bless us all, and all those we care about!!

"i bet you didnt make $5000 this month and this woman pays that amount for hair"

Well, no, she DIDN'T pay that much for hair, that's why she was sued.

This "news" story is so unimportant, but I had to comment on the some the responses to this. It took AOL to remind me that, yes, there are ignorant people in the world and they are more vocal when they have a screen to hide behind. I live in the deep South where it is automatically assumed that racism runs rampant, but even the racists with the longest family tradition of such have the common sense now to keep that garbage quiet. I guess all that keeping quiet causes too much pressure within them and so they have to spill it all out on the internet. I also notice that alot of kids are so harsh in their judgment of race online as well.

I don't know how to break this to you but here it is. It is 2010. As an American I have the same rights as everyone else. Alot of African Americans work hard to attain the American dream and I happen to be one of them. Not all of us jumped on the Obama bandwagon, but when I read a post like some of the ones I've just read I am proud that we have a president who is a person of color.

And to the person who went on the politely worded racist rant about the Obama plan, I'm sure you've got a couple of country cousins who will benefit from it as well. Stop trying to act as if you're so much better than what you are. You are nothing but a flesh and blood human being who if your life depended on the community college education of a black nurse (for instance), I would bet copious amounts of money that you wouldn't say any of that to her face. So grow up! And by the way you might want to know your ignorance is showing.

First of all, this is a blog about a moron who didn't bother paying for hair extensions, not world problems. If you want that kind of news, you get out of Entertainment news and go to the depressing news sections. Also, it is not all whites who are making the racist comments and it gets pretty aggrivating when it is "always' the whites who are the racists when in reality it is the total opposite. People cannot even comment on a story ON topic without the racism and hate, the tossing in their politics of course I mean, Heaven forbid there isn't politics on EVERY board. Yeah hair extensions sound political to me - NOT! Who cares who is a well to do black person or not? WHAT does that have to do with being too ignorant to pay for service where the owner is probably someone working her tail off to support her family? I'm white and well off but I don't come to a board for comments about some dingbat not paying for hair extensionsand to whoever made the comment that "maybe she didn't like them",thenwhy didn't she say so? No, she has a little money because someone pays for her non-talent so she thinks she is above everyone else. Noney has a way of making people snobs. We don't need the "look at me, I am black and I make tons of money for doing nothing. She probably wouldn't get through the trials at American Idol, she's another 'Auto-tune junkie'. You people need to keep your politics, you're "Oh I am well off" comments, the "man of color' in the White House comments to yourselfand try justONCE to comment ON topic. It'd be a nice change, and that includes everyone - not just blacks or whites. Dangit ONE time can we PLEASE have an ON TOPIC board with NO hate, NO racism, NO OBOZO - and that includes that idiotic health care crap, nothing but the topic - let's just STAY ON TOPIC... thank you!!!

@ Survivor
I do not disagree that this article was about Kelis' failure to pay for services rendered, sadly the issue was overshadowed by some blatant ignorance. I am not going to say white people are the only racists because there are racist people of every ethnic origin. I just find it annoying that we cannot have a meeting of the minds without having to mind the foolishness of a person with e-bravado.
With that being said, I am laughing so hard that first of all this woman spent that much on hair extensions (they better come with a heck of a warranty or do tricks or something) and then refuse to pay. I do not like the star mentality that because they are famous they should get what they want with or without paying. I would contend that the stylist who she swindled out of much deserved money (those things take some time out to do and she could have filled that time with paying customers) was a fan. I mean really Kelis comes along every once in a blue moon with a song that is catchy, but nothing truly memorable since she released "Caught Out There (I Hate You So Much Right Now)" and she should be trying to hold on to the fan base she has. Record sales aren't what they used to be.

Why any bad news involving a black person, some idiot(s) always think that all black people are like or do the same thing? Obviously you have never left your house to see how different people can be. Unless you actually went around and met or have a informal encounter with a black person, a white person , a asian, a hispanic, then you can say "they are all the same". And @ stashstick, you sound like a real mature person "blackies" , are we in 2nd grade or do you still live with your parents aka hitler and company? I bet never in a million years will you ever say anything like that in front of a black person or any other racial comment , tryin to act like your sh!t don't stank, oh please, low life.

What a terrible label to put on people. And how courageous of you to post it behind the safety of your walls and computer.

swancreative- You are right, everytime I come to these post about a black person famous or not, all it is, is a bunch of racist people. And, I could almost bet they call them selves believers in God. It cracks me up because I could almost bet that 99% of the people through the computer would NEVER dare to say anything of the sort to someones face. They are probably the people who are scared of black people and this is the only way they have to lash back. You racist people crack me up... Answer me this if you, your child, or loved one were on a donor list and need a heart transplant and it came throught that and it was from a black person would you accept it? Becasue even though the skin color may be different were all the same underneath, I can also bet that most of these comments come from older people (40+ and yes you are considered older pepole) a word the the "wise," get over it, it's been over since you were a kid, and it's not going to better our world for anyone (including your families)

im laughing at all the racist haters. this woman can afford $5000 hair do's and dont bother showing up in court. this woman has a lot more money than you. i bet you didnt make $5000 this month and this woman pays that amount for hair. it sucks doesnt it? that explains your anger at any black that has a lifestyle better than yours.

so the first thing you try to do is bring well to do blacks down, so you can feel better about yourself.

you miserable white people dont realize you are exposing your sad life each time you comment on what blacks are doing.

well off, sucessful whites could care less. and they dont hang online leaving comments

With all the world's problems (Haiti, earthquakes, children dying etc.) and we're actually discussing "hair extensions"? I add myself to that, because I actually read the comments myself. We all need to wake up!!!
