Alabama rapper Yelawolf has developed some serious buzz in the underground hip-hop scene in recent months. On Monday (March 29), Hot 97 radio personality, Miss Info, reported that the rising MC had inked a deal with Interscope Records after a heated bidding war between labels.Miss Info broke the news on her blog, explaining that she had been tipped off by a reliable source. "A big birdie tells me that Yelawolf has officially signed to Interscope Records," she wrote. "Again, buzz + climate created a bidding war, but it seems Jimmy Iovine was highly motivated. Congrats to the Alabaman!"
After several successful collaborations in the past year -- including hooks on Juelz Santana's 'Mixing Up the Medicine' and Slim Thug's 'I Run,' -- Yelawolf has created a steady following for himself. His recent performances at the SXSW music festival in Austin, Texas resulted in a co-sign from the Los Angeles Times, tagging him as "the best White rapper since Eminem." If all sources are accurate, Yelawolf will be the second Alabama native to land a deal with Interscope Records, following Rich Boy.
Wolf released his mixtape 'Trunk Muzik' back in January and will still remain with his independent label Ghet-O-Vision, despite the new deal with Interscope. He is currently on a 20-date tour with Wiz Khalifa.
