After cutting ties with longtime manager and Beyonce patriarch Matthew Knowles, Kelly Rowland is back in the studio working on her third studio album after signing a new deal with Universal Motown. And since she's changing things up on the business side of things, Rowland is taking chances sonically, leaning towards a disco-themed new release."I'm trying to take a page from the amazing books of Donna Summer and Diana Ross," Rowland told the UK's Daily Star. "They were so powerful and glam on stage and such a voice for women. I looked at them to take inspiration from and then thought of a way to make it my own. I am also taking inspiration from my peers like Will.I.Am, who I think had done a great job."
In addition to the Black Eyed Pea, Rowland also plans to re-team with singer/songwriter Ne-Yo and DJ David Guetta, who she collaborated on the #1 UK single 'When Love Takes Over.' "Ne-Yo has written songs from me," Rowland said. "It makes me so happy because they are incredible. He thinks about the story and the artists. He wants to talk about where they are mentally. That's what makes him incredibly great. David's on the record and we had to go back to our formula because that worked so well for me. I also want to get P Diddy on the album too. It's a great list of people and the record had come together so beautifully."
Rowland's new album is currently untitled and is scheduled to be released later this year. The lead single is rumored to be a track called 'Commander.'
