Mark this one down under money-grubbing. During a Senate hearing that took place on April 13, the Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations went through a stack of previously-sealed material in an attempt to figure out how Washington Mutual (WaMu) was at heart of the largest banking failure in U.S. history. One of the items was so ridiculous we had to pass it on. During a 2006 "President's Club Dinner" retreat in Kauai, Hawaii, a group going by Kathy and "Big Bucks" performed a spoof of Sir Mix-A-Lot's classic 'Baby Got Back' with new lyrics. It's pretty offensive looking back at it now.
"I like big bucks and I cannot lie," started the WaMu rap, which is entitled 'I Like Big Bucks.' "You mortgage brothers can't deny/ That when the dough rolls in like you're printin your own cash/ And you gotta make a splash/ You just spends/ Like it never ends/ Cuz you gotta have that big new Benz/ All of that bling you're wearin/ Shining so bright peoples sharing/ It's crazy, I gotta ski Aspen/ That's all I'm askin."
The performers then apparently ran into the crowd throwing around play money into the sea of banking executives. After the rap, which continues with similar lyrics, the group reportedly struck a "rapper pose." In another skit, WaMu bankers reportedly staged a mock funeral involving their biggest competitor, Countrywide Financial. We can see why they tried to keep this one a secret. Two years later, on September 26, 2008, WaMu filed for bankruptcy.
