Police to Protest Festival Feat. Nas, Damian Marley

Nas and Damian MarleyPolice in West Palm Beach, Florida have announced plans to picket an upcoming music festival which features some of the biggest rock and hip-hop performers, ranging from ZZ Top and Weezer to Nas and Damian Marley.

According to reports, more than 50 officers will be protesting The SunFest, which is one of West Palm Beach's biggest music events, over the city's decision to cut pay raises and benefits for police.

"I'm a little sad that the union never even called us," a SunFest organizer said. "I don't understand what put us in the middle of this. It doesn't make sense." Despite objections from within the police force's ranks, West Palm Beach Police Chief Delsa Buch has promised that police will still be on hand to work the event.

"I don't think the public will appreciate it, and I hope (the police) rethink it," said West Palm Beach Mayor Lois Frankel. "We'll have plenty of security. It's always been a very safe event with very few incidents.

To ensure the safety of the concert-goers, SunFest's organizers claim to have hired security guards to replace any missing police. The event, scheduled for April 28-May 2, also features Sean Kingston, Patti LaBelle, Ben Harper, REO Speedwagon and many more. Nas and Damian Marley will be performing songs from their 'Distant Relatives' album, which is dropping on May 18. They are scheduled to appear on Sunday, May 2 at 3:30PM.

COPS IN NEW ORLEANS TRIED THAT POWER PLAY JUST BEFORE MARDI GRAS. THE MAYOR GOT STATE POLICE AND NATIONAL GUARD TO TAKE OVER. GOOD TIMES WERE HAD BY MANY, WITH FEW INCIDENTS REPORTED. AS FOR THE WIFE OF A COP TALKING ABOUT KATRINA, THE POLICE FORCE WAS DEPLORABLE. THEY STOLE AND ROBBED WORSE THAN ANY CRIMINAL. I WAS THERE. WHEN YOU PUT PEOPLE AT RISK FOR MONEY, YOUR JUST ANOTHER THUG. ANY COP WHO REFUSES TO DO THEIR JOB SHOULD BE FIRED.

A Michigan State Trooper was fired after 22 months of stealing drugs from the evidence room and selling to high school kids. How did this happen you ax? A cop was undercover in one of the high schools he was selling to. Barely made the news.

Thugs are on the streets BECAUSE cops are too busy writing tickets and performing "roadside safety checks"....LEGALIZE the RIGHT to carry guns, like the CONSTITUTION states and these so called "thugs" would think twice before choosing upon who they prey upon. When will people see that we are OVER POLICED in this country, not to mention over taxed. U.S. is becoming socialist by the second.

Not once has a cop ever protected me form anything. Majority are whining power hungry little boys/girls trapped in mens/womens bodies who pretty much nail the working man on B.S. traffic charges. "To protect and serve" B.S. It's more like "We out to get ya sucker"!!!

James Herlihy, you are fortunate not to have needed the Cops to save your bacon, but knock on wood when you say that. With the number of violent criminals on the streets of all American cities, chances are your time will come. When it does, just remember the words you wrote in this post. By the way, it sounds like you must have gotten a ticket for bad driving practices. Better slow down or that will get you quicker than a bad guy.

I donut understand how the concert is the acceptable place for this. Why are they not protesting in front of city hall or there own precinct. Are they afraid they would not get enough press from there. That is all I can see they are getting from doing it at the largest festival in West Palm Beach.Or maybe its there way of getting out of work and being able to go stand out side with out loitering so they can hear the music.

These guys have their pay cut and then they are asked to do extra. Would you? How about we cut your pay 10% then tell you you have to work extra because someone making a bunch of money already wants to have fun in the sun. And you don't even get what you were making? Then if you complain you are told you chose this professon, If you don't like it get another job.
Festival people, pay the cops. You know rentacops can't do the job if things go wrong. And without the cops there is a better chance things will go wrong.

I live here and am going to Sunfest. I was not planning to have to encounter protesting Police. This is totally unnecessary. I work my butt off each day so I can enjoy some fun once in a while. West Palm Beach Police.....this is not the place.

Be thankful you have a job. These unions are still using the every day person to fill their pockets. If thousands of people have no job, why are you not thankful for having a job? No one sympathize with you at all.

policeman, firemen and soldiers are the
ONLY occupations which pay raises can be justified in these economic times.
personally, i respect the hell out of them.
the concert IS a great choice to picket since it gatherss the highest visibility and exposure possible.
it's not as if it will negatively impact the festival and the performances.
after all, what could be safer than a protest by a bunch of cops.!?
