Prison Guard Claims She Was Fired for Spying on Lil Wayne

A former guard at New York's Rikers Island jail complex says she plans to file a federal lawsuit against the city, after she was fired for allegedly spying on Lil Wayne. Amelia Negron told the New York Daily News that her union bosses forced her to confess that she was attempting to sneak a peek at Wayne, who began serving his sentence at Rikers on March 8.

Negron first refuted the charges based on grounds that she isn't a hip-hop fan. "I don't even like rap," she said. "I like rock and alternative music and didn't know much about him when they said I tried to see him. None of it is true."

She explained that the trouble began in March, when she attempted to visit a co-worker in a unit that Lil Wayne happened to be in also. "The door to the area was unlocked, and so I went in to say hello, and that officer said 'Hey, you can't be here. We've got a celebrity here.' I said, 'Okay, no problem,' turned around and left," Negron said. "We did nothing wrong, but we were threatened with criminal charges, transfers and suspicions."The former guard claims that Correction Officer's Benevolent Association President Norman Seabrook later assured her that he would put a stop to the legal proceedings if she admitted to spying on Weezy. Seabrook denied any such conversation with Negron, and she was terminated from her position on April 19, under claims that she had missed 91 days of work during her brief employment at Rikers.

Negron has countered the violation, explaining that her employers were well aware of an injury which forced her to undergo surgery on her hand. The 33-year-old says she plans to move forward with a lawsuit for discrimination and harassment.
