Eminem Awarded Plaque for Artist of the Decade

Eminem has temporarily satiated the appetite of impatient fans with the release of his new single 'Not Afraid' from the upcoming album, 'Recovery,' but Shady has also been tending to some unfinished business this past week.

Nielsen Entertainment President Eric Weinberg and Retail Relations Vice President Chris Muratore recently presented Eminem with his official plaque for 'Artist of the Decade' -- an achievement that was originally announced at the end of 2009. Eminem was joined by Interscope Chairman Jimmy Iovine and Vice President Steve Berman, in addition to Dr. Dre and his manager Paul Rosenberg when he accepted the hallmark award.

Back in December, Nielsen Soundscan declared Eminem as the bestselling artist of the decade after calculating record sales. According to Nielsen, the Detroit emcee has racked up over 32 million album sales in the past ten years, beating out second and third place contenders, the Beatles and Tim McGraw, by over 2 million units. Eminem's 2000 album, 'The Marshall Mathers LP' and 2002's 'The Eminem Show,' sold 10.2 million and 9.8 million copies respectively, cementing themselves at numbers four and five on the bestseller list. This made Slim Shady the first artist to ever land two albums in the same category.

Eminem's seventh solo album, 'Recovery' is scheduled for a June 22 release.

Guys, it doesn't matter if you don't know who he is. Just know that since his first album has come out, he has sold over 80 million albums worldwide, and, according to this article, has one diamond album and another album that is almost diamond, and all of his albums that were produced by a large label have gone triple platinum. He is considered the best lyricist/rapper alive, no matter what Weezy says.

Eminem is awarded artist of the decade because the 32 million plus people that listen to him realize that he is a talented artist. As he's proven again with newest album that just went platinum this week.

He raps about the craziness, absurdities, ironies and hardships of life. Yes many of his song lyrics are crazy and absurd and can offend - but does that mean we take them all seriously? No we fans write it off as artistic liberties. Do all his naysayers take life so seriously? Lighten up people - its music. Some of the greatest musicians of history wrote offending music. That's what made many famous. Many of his fans also realize that his music/art is not to be taken literally. Isn't sad to know that many of you pass judgment without having ever heard a song by him? Does that mean you also pass judgment on other things in your life without first experiencing it?

I was 20 when the Slim Shady LP came out in '99 - I'm now 31 and my husband and I just bought his newest album "Recovery". We loved his music then and we love it now. Funny how we're a successful upper middle class family and still loving him and his music after all these years. We would love our kids to become fans when they're older and can handle the lyrics (yeah I said it!!).

how can you say he is a wigger because he raps when you have not listened to any of his music? if you listen to him you can obviously tell he is white. his music videos are funnt and entertaining not cars and naked women moving in slow motion. he is not the typical rapper but then again you dont listen to his music and just decide to make comment you know nothing about because your favorite musician didnt win. darrius rucker is an awesome musician and he is a black country singer but i dont hear any negativity about him. tim mcgraw was in a song with nelly but i wouldnt call him a wigger. aerosmith did a song with run dmc but would you call them wiggers? i think not. i am a country boy but love eminems songs. they are not like other rappers songs they sing about real things and real problems not just cars and bitches. he deserves this award more then anyone. maybe all of you who are talking shit are the problems and not the so called youth.

Slim Shady? Marshall Mathers? No, you probably don't.. Cause you're old as shit.. Just quit being racist like your parents were. That's just not(cool)any more. So just kick back, pop in The Slim Shady LP**(BUY IT) or you could make some life decisions while listening to The Marshall Mathers LP**(BUY IT). I mean what could go wrong? Your old.

first thing i can say about eminem is he has two sides if you listen to his music. One side is Slim Shady, which is really what has made him popular, with songs like "shady's back" and "will the real slim shady please stand up". The other side is more serious with soungs like mockingbird and when im gone. He is the best thing to come out of detroit(in my opinion)since the motown records. And I love how hes so controversial and people take everything he says so seriously. With eminem you gotta know when to take him seriously and when not too. Congrats eminem!

The award is for ARTIST of the decade, not SINGER of the decade; the thing was up for grabs by whoever sold the most albums, regardless of the genre. He did the best, he deserves the award, period.

Was there really any doubt? No one in a million years could do what he has! Harpjazz the last time I watched the Grammys, spoken word albums were up for awards, too! It all comes under the same category: Entertainment! If you or anyone else doesn't want to watch, TURN THE FUCKIN' CHANNEL!!!!!
