Court Date Postponed for Tupac's Mom

A May 10, court hearing for Afeni Shakur Davis -- the mother of late rapper Tupac Shakur -- has been delayed until the summer.

63-year-old Davis was apprehended by North Carolina state alcohol agents in mid-April for drug possession. She was slapped with multiple charges, including felony possession of marijuana, maintaining a vehicle, dwelling or place for controlled substance and simple possession of a controlled substance. The situation is a relapse to Tupac's 1995 classic song 'Dear Mama,' which famously drew attention to his mother's battle with drugs.

Davis was initially released on a $10, 000 bond. Her May 10 court date at North Carolina's Robeson County District Court has now been pushed to Aug. 24.

Since her days as a Black Panther activist in the 1970s, the Lumberton, North Carolina native has remained focused on her business enterprises. In addition to founding the Georgia-based Tupac Amaru Shakur Foundation, which provides art programs for children, Davis' Amaru Entertainment Company is currently locked in a legal battle with film studio, Morgan Creek Productions, to secure rights to the long-awaited Tupac biopic film.
