Jay-Z and Eminem are teaming up for two of the most gargantuan shows in hip-hop history. The 'Renegade'-duo will be performing at both New York's Yankee Stadium and Detroit's Comerica Park later this season. Both rappers were present at Comerica Park last night (May 12) for the official announcement during the third inning of the Detroit Tigers vs. New York Yankees game, which the Yankees swept 8-0. The first show will take place in Detroit on September 2. Jay will open up for Eminem at that date before Em returns the favor at Yankee Stadium on September 13. Tickets for both performances go on sale June 12.
"Of course, for me, I'm a kid from New York," said Jay-Z when asked about the opportunity to play in baseball stadiums by YES Network commentator Michael Kay. "He has his Detroit thing right there. I've never played in a stadium. For me, I'm overwhelmed ... That's like a dream. You dream of playing Madison Square Garden and say maybe I could play Yankee Stadium." Hov did perform 'Empire State of Mind' before a World Series game last season, but this will be his first experience playing a full set at the Yankees' headquarters.
When asked if Em and Jay would give up their hip-hop careers and accomplishments for a chance to start on their respective favorite baseball teams, they seemed pretty sure they choose the right path.
"No, it's difficult to hit a baseball," responded Jay-Z.
Eminem finished, "Nah, I don't think I could hit that ball."
