With the successful launch of Monster's Beats by Dr. Dre headphones, another rapper is looking to get into the earpiece game. Hip-hop mogul Jay-Z's company, Roc Nation, is linking with Skullcandy headphones to release a new line of listening equipment. The first item to come out of the venture will be the Roc Nation Aviator, which sports a much more vintage frame than Dre's sleek futuristic set. "Our passion is creating amazing music," Jay-Z said in a statement. "We're dedicated to delivering the best in live performances. Now with the Roc Nation/Skullcandy partnership, we're offering the best way for people to experience the soundtrack of their lives."
Using the "superior metals" usually allotted for sturdy eyewear, the headphones boast top of the line technology that will increase clarity for amplified sonic enjoyment. "This partnership is an incredible opportunity for Skullcandy," added Skullcandy CEO Rick Alden. "By teaming up with Roc Nation on both the creative and marketing direction of these products, we are able to set the bar at a new high -- challenging the future quality of what emerges in the industry from here on out."
Roc Nation Aviator headphones hit stores this June. According to a spokesperson for the company, the headphones will be available in three colors -- black, brown and white -- and will retail for $149.
