Scarface Boycotts VH1's 'Hip Hop Honors'

Hip-hop veterans Uncle Luke and Tony Draper recently voiced their displeasure with this year's VH1 'Hip Hop Honors', which will honor the 'Dirty South.' Both emcees opted out of participation in the annual show, and now Texas rapper Scarface will join them in sitting this one out.

In a heated rant, Scarface vented to Ozone magazine that he would not be attending the show because he felt disrespect for being boxed into such a narrow category. "I was nominated, but I declined to accept because I don't wanna be classified as just 'Dirty South.'"

"I'm Hip Hop man. I'm not going because I feel slighted. Even though it was a nice gesture, I feel like it's just a pacifier. They're like, 'Let's give these n----s down there a pacifier so they can stop feeling left out. We'll make Luke and all these n----s down there look funny,' you know?"

The outspoken emcee made it clear that his beef was not necessarily with the award show itself, but with the way they approached this year's category. He explained that, although he had participated in several previous 'Hip Hop Honors,' VH1's 'Dirty South' theme seemed more of a mockery than an honor. "I went to [Hip Hop Honors] when they honored Def Jam because I wanted to be a part of that. I felt honored that they would even call me to do it. But this year, I totally disagree with how they're trying to categorize us," he said. "You know how they make us look on TV? Like we live on the front porch with flies and s--- flying around us, with our stomachs all big, eating watermelon rings. Don't f----- make a mockery of us because we come from down there and you have no f----- idea what it looks like."

After revisiting the struggle it took to get Southern hip-hop on the map, Scarface said that he just wasn't willing to let the show tarnish everything he and his fellow Southern rappers have worked hard to achieve."For an East Coast-based show to call themselves showing some f----- love by making a Southern watered-down version of what the show is supposed to be or what Hip Hop really is, man, I feel fucked up about that s---"

VH1's 'Hip Hop Honors' airs June 7, 2010.

Like all sorts of music, I dont let color, rhythm or location influence what I like or dislike- If I feel it I feel it and if they arent wantin to attend well up to them for their own personal legit reason.

Misfit. If it meens i dont turn out like you then im perfictly fine with it.

Now you're a in a Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer cartoon fantasy. Misfit, lol, aren't you so cool. Just a theory, but I bet you're white, above average IQ, and the only way you could rationalize the insanity of diversity was to rebel. Little do you know, you're the victim. You're the one they don't want figuring out the scam. Why? Because you're smart enough to do something about it. Instead, they trick you into rebelling against your culture and yourself. Believe it or not, I was the same way 30 years ago.

ajschrod thank you for your opinion.
however everyone is entitled to their own opinion, style, and genre of music. So rappers can rap about whatever they like. The fact that they probably make more money than you in your entire lifetime with a hit single, means that these low lifes figure out something you didnt and probably never will.

I think these rappers have a good point. Just because they are rappers from the south doesn't mean that they have to live into the stereotypes people categorized the south for. They have class like any other artist with money.
and no, rappers didnt get stuck in the nursury ryhme stage. Rap is an art, as much as country, rock, or pop music. so be cool mr. ignorant.

Well heres the thingf. I luv Scarface and always have. I do consider him as a varied emcee part of hip hop. Now that said the southern rap movement created the dirty south, they bragged about it, sang about it, had it tatted on them and were proud to have created the term so his argument though well intended is moot.Im a true hip hopper back packer underground person who is looking for that next kid who can bend words, use metaphors and snap similies at break neck speeds. The dirty south made that image its what they wanted as thier own yes they made thier own videos like Bone Krusher, UGK, Master P, Hot Boyz, Juvinile, Nappy roots, Dj Screw,#-^ Mafia all showing this is what we are and do...it had fat bellys out, bbq, drinking, sitting on the porch in 100 degree whether, slanging drugs, hair looking crazy and all of that. Face I luv you but The show is just saying hey you guys made your own nitch your way and we gonna show some luv to it as you made it...If they wanted to clown, which is easy to do, they would invited none of the dirty south originators who made this image that the south loves and just talked about you..They made a wholew event about what the south created and embraced as thier life style. They dont wear timbs and vets down there. They dont rock crsip starched pant line and worry about metaphors and vernacular thought like up north or east. They rhym what they know and are proud of it.Its fact and its made by the dirty south folks.Gotta keep it real.Much respect but think on it a bit more..

If black guys would start learning to appreciate "music" again, we could be rid of rap trash forever, then we wouldn't know or care who these low-lifes are!
