Beastie Boy Adam Yauch is most definitely coming back strong from a cancer hiatus. His film distribution company, Oscilloscope Laboratories, has just announced a new partnership with Specialty Films to develop and produce a documentary feature around a popular book called 'Pictures at a Revolution: Five Movies and the Birth of New Hollywood.' Written by Mark Harris in 2008, the book and upcoming movie explore the Academy Awards' five best picture nominees in 1967. Variety reports that 'Roman Polanski: Wanted and Desired'-director Marina Zenovich will be at the helm for 'Pictures at a Revolution' with Yauch and partner David Fenkel holding down executive production duties. The film will claim that the five best picture nominees from 1967 ('Bonnie and Clyde,' 'Guess Who's Coming to Dinner,' 'In the Heart of the Night,' 'The Graduate' and 'Dr. Dolittle') were the true beginning of America's golden age of film that continued through the 1970s.
The announcement marks a rare venture into producing for Oscilloscope -- a company that has been mostly associated with distribution thus far. "We're pretty focused on distribution and acquisition, but moving forward, we will be looking at a few more projects," Fenkel said.
If all goes according to plan, the film will be released in North America and qualify for the Academy Awards, but there's no confirmed timeline for completion as of yet.
