Former Miami Drugpin Sues Rick Ross for Use of Name

Former Miami drug kingpin Rick Ross is reportedly planning to file suit against his hip-hop namesake for using his street name without consent.

At the height of his criminal career in the mid-80's, the "real" Rick Ross moved millions of dollars worth of cocaine weekly, and was one of the world's most respected and feared drug dealers. Sentenced in 1996 for attempting to purchase over 100 kilograms of cocaine from an undercover agent, Ross was recently released, and has publicly stated his frustration with the rapper Rick Ross' (born William Leonard Roberts II) usage of his name and reputation.

According to the former drug dealer's claims, he sent cease-and-desist letters to the Roberts' record label, Def Jam, requesting that the MC refrain from using his name, but was ignored. Ross is allegedly planning to sue Def Jam, parent company Universal, Roberts and several others.

Meanshile, the rapper's highly anticipated 4th album, 'Teflon Don,' is scheduled for a July 6 release date, featuring production by Kanye West and guest appearances by Jay-Z and Ne-Yo.

This is an oxymoronic statement: "...was one of the world's most respected and feared drug dealers."

Feared, perhaps. Respected? Hell no, not in his lifetime!

How bad is the reporting in this article. Rick Ross the drug kingpin is from Los Angeles not Miami. Rick Ross the rapper is from Miami.

I can see why the real Rick Ross wants to sue because he should be the one benefiting from his life story fictional or not. The industry is fake we try to keep it real on www.daoneradio.com but if no one tunes in we'll have to shut it down or turn fake like all the others.

That's just like black people. fighting over a street name. IGNORANT!!! and I'm sure majority of the people this rick ross sold drugs to were black people. It's sad that people want to imitate and walk the paths of those who makes no difference in a positive manner in the African American communities. Never hear any of these rappers using a person name who made a difference. Always has to be some ignorant fool who brings down the black race. SMH, we have such a long way to go!!! And we wonder why other races look at us with no respect. WAKE UP BLACK PEOPLE

The Real Rick ROss is not going to win because the stage name Rick Ros is a copyrighted to this artist. It was just a street name so he has no documentation that he owns the name. It's a waste of tax payers money.
