7 Grand Records Pays Tribute to Guru With Unreleased Footage

7 Grand Records has announced plans to pay tribute to its founder, Guru, by releasing a series of behind-the-scenes footage in the next few weeks.

A representative for the record label issued a statement explaining that the late emcee will be honored with unseen and exclusive footage that will include concert coverage, video shoots and more. "His legacy was timeless and he invented music that will shine forever long after he's gone," a rep for the label said. "In our lasting and fragrant memories, we will never forget the MC who raised the bar and paved the way for many rappers without the exploitative and negative stigma that has seeped into this generation of Hip-Hop."

Guru, born Keith Elam, passed away at age 43, on Monday, April 19 after a long battle with cancer. The Boston born rapper was a half of the pioneering hip-hop duo, Gang Starr, along with DJ Premier. In 1993 he kicked off his solo career with the first release in his four-volume 'Jazzmatazz' series, introducing the hip-hop community to an innovative blend of hip-hop, r&b, jazz and soul.
