Super producer DJ Premier has a pretty busy schedule ahead of him. The instrumental driving force behind Gang Starr recently spoke on his upcoming projects before a Chicago performance, discussing plans to release full-length albums with MC Eiht and KRS-One as well as with legendary vocalist Chaka Khan.Primo explained that he manned the boards for a new project from MC Eiht, paring down 40 tracks to a mere 20 and planning to add three more to the final product. The official single, 'Don't Hesitate,' is expected to drop soon, as Premier has already played the track for his label and given all of the songs titles. Premier has also put in work on NYG'z upcoming 'Hustle's Union: Local NYG,' Jersey emcee Nick Javas' album 'Destination Unknown' and Texas-based artist Khaleel, producing half of the newcomer's album that also features a guest appearance from Houston rapper Bun B.
If that wasn't enough to keep him busy, Premier's work with KRS-One and Chaka Khan includes full-length albums. "Yes, she trusts my vision and she knows about my respect for her Rufus stuff and her solo stuff and she understands I get it," he said of his discussions with Khan. "Our conversation was so great, and I'm sending her some stuff ... and she's all excited and I'm excited."
Primo intends to release an EP with some of the aforementioned work, including a collaboration between KRS-One and Grand Puba called '5 Percenters,' a track from Young Maylay, another joint from Khaleel and a possible bonus track dedicated to Gangstarr from Group Home, Jeru the Damaja and Big Shug.
A few of the DJ's beats can be heard on Kanye West's 'Good Ass Job' and Bun B's 'Trill O.G.,' on which he produced the gritty street joint 'Let 'Em Know.' Primo will also soon head into the studio with Common to produce some of the Chi-town emcee's new material.
