The former home of R. Kelly that served as the backdrop for the controversial sex tape that dented the singer's career is up for sale. The Chicago Sun-Times is reporting that the house will go on the Chicago market on Monday (June 7) for a price tag of $3.89 million. In 2008, R. Kelly went to trial after being accused of filming himself having sex with an underage girl in the "Colorado Room" located in the basement of the home. He was found not guilty after the jury was unable to identify the man or woman on the tape.
After moving from the home located on Chicago's North Side in 2002, the house went unoccupied for several years. It was eventually purchased for $1 million dollars in 2008 by a woman named IIlene Greenblatt, who had no idea who R. Kelly was. Greenblatt, with the help of a designer, has since renovated the house adding a host of new amenities ranging from an elevator and a 1,500- square-foot roof deck to a $7000 shower head. Kelly's 1,600 shark tank is still there, but has been replaced with "tamer fish."
Ed Jelinek, the realtor helping sell the home, hopes the chic pad will appeal to athletes or entertainers. The price tag? A cool $3.89 million.
