Young Money rapper Drake made a much-publicized trip to visit his mentor Lil Wayne in Rikers Island last week, and announced that the two made plans to record a collaboration album. After the visit, Wayne lent credence to this claim by recording a verse from his cell, over the instrumental for Drake's 'Light Up,' which features Jay-Z.Drake first played the song at the New York 'Thank Me Later' listening session, which took place last week, but the Canadian-bred rapper played the song again last night via Ustream. A slightly subdued Wayne rapped the verse over the telephone, but the wordplay and humor is vintage Weezy.
"Wish I was in Amsterdam, sipping Amstel/ Thinking of all a that p---- I can't smell," the Young Money boss spits. "I'm not 2Pac, I'm the new Pac/ Behind bars, but the bars don't stop/ Recording over the phone, I hope the call don't drop/ Drizzy got the ball, I know the ball won't drop/ And I pray none of my kids ever wanna be pop."
Check out Wayne's addition to the track below. The original featuring Jay-Z can be heard on Drake's highly-anticipated debut, 'Thank Me Later,' scheduled for a June 15 release.
