Death Row Records founder Marion "Suge" Knight has once again gotten himself off the hook. The former gangsta rap kingpin was arrested on May 20 for allegedly threatening Elmwood E. Chatman with a gun during an argument in Los Angeles. He was charged with assault with a deadly weapon, but released several hours later after he posted a $65,000 bail.
Knight vehemently denied that he threatened Chatman, and since police were unable to turn up the weapon in question, the prosecution decided yesterday that they would decline to file assault charges against Knight for lack of evidence.
Chatman currently has another open case with the LAPD for an assault that occurred on April 4. Though he did not name Knight in the incident, he did claim that Knight threatened his life several times, and harassed his wife and their 12-year-old son.
The District Attorney's office has urged police to continue to investigate the case further. Meanwhile, Knight has been ordered not to step within 100 yards of Chatman.
