El DeBarge Brings Down the House at BET Awards 2010

The 2010 BET Awards included some standout moments, but one of the undeniable highlights of the evening was a performance from '80s hit maker El DeBarge. Taking the stage shortly after Chris Brown performed his touching tribute to Michael Jackson, the former DeBarge lead singer ran through a medley of hits including 'All This Love,' 'I Like It,' 'Time Will Reveal' and 'Rhythm of the Night.'

The 49-year-old singer began his performance with 'All This Love', originally recorded by his group DeBarge and released in 1983. Standing in front of a mic stand, DeBarge, clad in a black leather jacket, black jeans and a beaded cross necklace dangling down his white undershirt, segued into 'I Like It,' DeBarge's 1982 hit. As audience members like Taraji P. Henson sang along in the audience, the chanteur pulled the mic off the stand and danced across the stage, closing the song by hitting and holding an impressive high note.

After a thunderous applause, DeBarge took a seat behind a keyboard for the sultry 'Time Will Reveal,' the group's 1983 smash hit. And for the finale, he descended from the stage into the audience to perform 'Rhythm of the Night,' slapping skins with John Legend before heading back to the stage to end the medley on a jubilant note.

El DeBarge got his start in the family music group DeBarge, consisting of he and his four siblings. The group signed to Gordy, a subsidiary of Motown Records, and released four albums in the early '80s before El left the group in 1986. He went on to have a moderately successful solo career, releasing four solo albums between '86 and '94. El has been relatively quiet since then, having collaborated on one-off tracks with RZA and DJ Quik.

The performance during last night's show precedes the release of his upcoming fifth studio album, 'Second Chance,' which is set to be released in September via Interscope Records.

His performances last night were E-X-C-E-L-L-E-N-T. They really took me back in the day. I enjoyed seeing him rock the crowd. He displayed such energy and confidence on stage and he still looks great. Go head El. I look forward to any new projects he will release. My husband enjoyed him as well.

It was good to see him again, and glad to know that he is still rockin the house. He and his siblings were always a very good group and excellent performers!! Maybe they should get together for a reunion.
