Nicki Minaj's 'Your Love' Tops the Charts

Her official first single 'Massive Attack' didn't quite pop off like she had hoped, but that wasn't the end of the road for Nicki Minaj. Though songs she's been featured on have made dents on the charts over the past year, Minaj has finally nabbed her own number one single with 'Your Love,' which holds the top spot on this week's Billboard Rap Songs list.

The feat not only justifies Nicki's growing buzz, but it also marks a milestone for women in hip-hop. 'Your Love' is the first single by a female rap artist to top the Rap Songs chart in seven years, with Lil' Kim's 'Magic Stick' featuring 50 Cent serving as the last track to hold the same position back in June 2003 for five consecutive weeks. And while Kim had some male assistance, Missy Elliott is the last female artist to have a solo track top the chart with 'Work It' in November '02.

Nicki has recently been in the news for her publicized spat with Lil' Kim, who claims that the up-and-comer has yet to pay homage to her for paving the way for this generation's female emcees. After beating Kim for Best Female Hip-Hop Artist at this year's BET Awards, Nicki took the high road and vaguely paid her respects during her acceptance speech. "I just think it's so important right now for positive energy among women because I'm fighting for women," she said. "This is not for me, this is for all of us, so thank you to all the female rappers who paved the way for me."

Though this is the first that Nicki has earned her own hit, she's guest starred on tracks by Mariah Carey, Usher and Christina Aguilera, charting her highest with Ludacris on the platinum-certified 'My Chick Bad.' Nicki is set to appear on Kanye West's upcoming album 'Good Ass Job,' and is currently working on her debut solo album, which is slated for release later this year.
