A memorial service will be held in honor of the legendary hip-hop producer Keith "Guru" Elam on July 18.The service will be held in Guru's native Massachusetts at the University of Massachusetts' Boston campus. Guru passed away at age 48, on Monday, April 19 after a extensive battle with cancer. The Boston born rapper was half of the pioneering hip-hop duo, Gang Starr, along with DJ Premier. In 1993 he launched his solo career with the release of the first volume in the 'Jazzmatazz' series.
In late May, Guru's record label 7 Grand Records announced plans to pay tribute to the late rapper by releasing a series of behind-the-scenes footage in the upcoming weeks. A representative for the label confirmed that Guru would be remembered with unseen footage that includes concert coverage and video shoots.
Since his death, several hip-hop artists including Jeru The Damaja and his former partner DJ Premier have paid tribute to Guru.
