Missy Elliott Catching Heat for Upcoming Concert in Israel

Missy Elliott didn't have too many problems when she played Britain's Wireless Music Festival earlier this month, but her next international concert isn't going as smoothly. The Virginia native is set to perform at Gane HaTaarucha in Tel Aviv on July 15 for the first gig in Israel of her career, but Canadians for Justice and Peace in the Middle East are boycotting her show out of respect to the territorial dispute between Palestinians and Israelites.

"As a member of a visible minority, and someone who has long contributed to various social causes, Ms. Elliott may have a sensitivity to the plight of the oppressed," reads the online petition. "Santana, Elvis Costello, the Pixies and other prominent performers have recently canceled concerts in Israel in solidarity with the Palestinian call for boycott, divestment and sanctions against Israel in 2005."

The petition may be too late to have an effect, as tickets for the show have nearly sold out. This isn't the first time that an artist has been pressured to cancel a tour date in Israel, with Snoop Dogg facing similar criticism from a Palestinian group to steer clear of Israel back in 2008. The ongoing dispute between Israel and Palestine dates back to the early 20th century, with the war still claiming hundreds of lives on each side on an annual basis.

Despite the controversy, Missy Elliott has been laying low recently, popping up for a few performances here and there while recording her upcoming seventh studio album 'Block Party.'

The only boycott needed here is me never buying another Santana or Elvis Costello CD. I think I'll also pass on Elvis's TV show which I used to watch.

Go Missy! I never have seen an Israeli car bomb or explosives strapped to a Sabra's chest. Israel's defenses are world class and so is your performance. Good Luck.

Please, you fake "Israelis" claiming you've been there for centuries...you're the descendants of Europeans who took on the faith, not the true Jews who were dark-skinned with curly hair...hey, did I just describe an Arab????

Remember those POS Arabs celebrating in the streets with candy when our beloved towers were hit! Americans have such short memories!

Those performers who ban Israel really need to do their homework and see all the facts. But sadly a lot of them do not and just go by word of mouth instead of them using their own brains to see all truths on both sides...

There has NEVER in history been an independent nation of Palestinians in Israel, though the Jews have lived there for 30 centuries. The arabs in Gaza support a government that is lobbing rockets at civilian targets in Israel and promoting orhter terrorist activities. No other people on the face of the planet Earth would have exercised as much restraint as the Israelis have done, and it is only racist antisemitism that allows anyone to criticize the Israeli actions.

The rest of the Arab world didn't give a care about the Palestinians until they figured out that they could be used to harass the Jews.
If any muslim nation truly cared about their Palestinian brothers and sisters, they would have taken them into their countries decades ago when they needed a place to settle.
Also, no one in the Middle East had much interest in the land that is now Israel until it became developed and improved.

civilian deaths in gaza can be directly attributed to the deliberate hamas practice of storing weapons caches and firing rockets (on isreali civilian targets) next to homes and schools.

the IDF went to great pains to notify gazan civilians of impending attacks by calling individual homes. this effort lost the IDF tactical advantage against hamas but they did it anyway. some IDF soldiers were killed due to policies designed to protect civilian casualties.

isrealis are caring and compassionate people but there are many who are sucked-in by anti-semitic propaganda and outright lies of the regions true history. missy elliot should be praised for her clear-thinking and courage for defying a perverted opinion of isreal.

Israel wanted peace...Arafat wanted war. This is a fact.
