Back in January 2008, authorities locked up Jamal "Rock" Bush, one-half of the rap duo Heltah Skeltah, after he was accused of shooting and subsequently paralyzing a gang member and pimp in Brooklyn. Rock spent nine days at Rikers Island before posting a $125,000 bond. But it looks as though Rock can breathe easy. After his case went to trial yesterday, Rock has been found not guilty on charges of attempted murder, assault in the first degree and criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree. Duck Down Records broke the news that Rock was acquitted from his charges.
"DD NEWS ALERT: @RocknessMonstah NOT GUILTY on all charges of Attempted Murder, Assault 1 & Criminal Possession of a Weapon in 2nd Degree," read the tweet from Duck Down Records yesterday. DD CEO Dru Ha also shared his excitement on his Twitter page. "Exhale for @RocknessMonstah & congratulations to his attorney Kenneth Montgomery for the NOT GUILTY VERDICT! Incredible job."
Heltah Skeltah, which also includes rapper Ruck aka Sean Price, debuted back in 1996 with their seminal debut 'Nocturnal.' Following up with their sophomore album 'Magnum Force' in 1998, the duo waited a decade before releasing its third LP, 'D.I.R.T. (Da Incredible Rap Team),' with Rock releasing his first solo mixtape 'Shell Shock' the same year. Rock most recently appeared at Duck Down's 15 Anniversary Celebration at NYC's B.B. King's Club this past week.
