Producer Jim Jonsin Sued for Jacking Beat

Super producer Jim Jonsin was recently embroiled in a heated legal battle with emcee Lil Wayne for sampling a track without proper clearance, which Jonsin countered with a lawsuit claiming unpaid royalties. But the 'Lollipop' beatsmith's issues just got deeper.

Jonsin, who producedSlim Thug's Yelawolf-assisted 2009 single, 'I Run,' was just slapped with another suit claiming that he jacked the beat from a Florida producer.

Jason Jaggon, who filed his suit against the hitmaker in Ft. Lauderdale last week, asserts that his copyrighted beat for a track named 'Just C U' was stolen by Jonsin, who acquired a beat CD from Jaggon through friends in the industry. More than a year after realizing that Jonsin used the instrumental for Slim Thugga's single in February 2009, he has sued the producer as well as E1 Entertainment, Koch Entertainment and Rebel Rock Entertainment.

'I Run,' the first single off Slim Thug's 2009 sophomore album, 'Boss of All Bosses,' features an interpolation of A Flock of Seagulls' 1982 hit 'I Ran (So Far Away).' The track peaked at No. 20 on the Hot Rap Tracks chart, while its parent album debuted at No. 15 on the Billboard 200.

Jonsin has produced some of the biggest hits in hip-hop and pop over the past few years. His credits include T.I.'s 'Whatever You Like,' Beyoncé's 'Sweet Dreams,' Soulja Boy's 'Kiss Me Thru the Phone' and more. He was awarded the BMI Pop Award in 2010 for producing 'Whatever You Like,' and was named Billboard's third hottest producer of 2009.
