Well, Legend got lucky this week. During a trip to The Recording Academy offices in Santa Monica, Calif. on Thursday (Aug. 19), Academy President/CEO Neil Portnow presented the singer with a replacement Grammy, explaining that news of the accident had traveled. "We heard at your house there was a little bit of pandemonium," Portnow said, before handing over the new award. "We heard there was some mischief [and] your nephew was in trouble so we figured we might be able to help fix that."
Legend later tweeted a photo of his brand new Grammy Award. "Restoration! Look at what the recording academy (@TheGrammys) replaced for me when I was at their office," he wrote.
The six-time Grammy Award winner will release his new covers album 'Wake Up!' -- which was produced by The Roots -- on September 21. "It's an album full of socially-conscious songs about empowerment, songs about struggle, songs about standing up for your rights and believing in something bigger than yourself," Legend told The BoomBox. "Songs about love, connecting people, believing in one another and believing that we all are valuable and that we all have something to offer in the world."
John Legend and The Roots will be among the musical guests at the 2010 Miss Universe Pageant in Las Vegas on August 23.
