More than a year after Michael Jackson's unexpected death, the King of Pop's disgraced formed physician, Dr. Conrad Murray, will finally receive his day in court.

On Monday, August 23, Murray faced Los Angeles Superior Court judge Michael Pastor, who handed down a January 4, 2011 date for a preliminary hearing, which will determine whether there is enough sufficient evidence for a full scale trial.

The 57-year-old cardiologist has pleaded not guilty to a felony charge of involuntary manslaughter, after admitting to having administered the powerful anesthetic Propofol to Jackson, which the singer used as a sleep aid.

Murray's legal team did make one positive step in their defense, however, by winning a request to obtain a fluid sample from Jackson's body, in order to analyze the levels of Propofol found in the deceased singer's system, and potentially disprove the prosecution's claims that Jackson died as a result of the drug. Both Jackson's mother and father, Katherine and Joseph were in court Monday, sitting in the front row as the Judge set the hearing date. Outside the courthouse, a crowd Jackson fans reportedly sang taunting songs and held up signs accusing Murray of murder.

Murray faces up to 4 years in prison if found guilty.
