"We thought that there's no better way to kick off the show than a performance from Eminem," MTV general manager Stephen Friedman told the Associated Press. The VMAs opening slot is usually reserved for a memorable performance, such as last year's Michael Jackson tribute. No further details about Eminem's performance have been revealed, but there have already been rumblings about guest appearances from artists like Jay-Z and Dr. Dre.
This year, Eminem is nominated for eight VMAs -- second only to Lady Gaga's 13 nods -- which include Video of the Year and Best Male Video for his lead single 'Not Afraid' off his platinum-selling album 'Recovery.' He already has nine VMA trophies to his credit, including his 2009 Moonman for Best Hip-Hop Video, which he won for the track 'We Made You' from his 'Relapse' album.
The 2010 MTV Video Music awards will air at 9PM on Sunday, Sept. 12.
