On Monday (Sept. 20) the Brooklyn rapper gave an official update on the status of the project, letting fans know that it is almost complete. "Putting the finishes touches on my new album 'Gutter Rainbows' available sooner than you think (Mphazes, EJones, S1, HiTek, SkiBeatz etc...)," he wrote. Kweli then followed-up with some additional details. "The title Gutter Rainbows was taken from Catcher in The Rye. Info for my literary nerds."
Talib Kweli's last official studio album was his 2007 release 'Eardrum.' The album sold 60,000 copies and landed at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 chart in its first week, thanks to singles like 'Hot Thing/In The Mood.' It marks his most successful debut to date. In May, Kweli released 'Revolutions Per Minute' with Hi-Tek under the Reflection Eternal moniker. It was the duo's first album together since their 2000 collaborative debut, 'Train of Thought.'
