LL Cool J, Beastie Boys Among 2011 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Nominees

LL Cool J and the Beastie Boys have another shot at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The two hip-hop acts are among the 15 music groups on the 2011 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame nominations ballot. They have some stiff competition: Alice Cooper, Bon Jovi, Chic, Neil Diamond, Donovan, Dr. John, J. Geils Band, Darlene Love, Laura Nyro, Donna Summer, Joe Tex, Tom Waits and Chuck Willis round out the list.

500 voters will decide who gets inducted into the 2011 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. All nominees have met the Rock Hall's standard induction requirement of releasing a first single or album at least 25 years prior to the year of nomination. With hip-hop only breaking into mainstream music in the early '80s, the genres presence on the esteemed list is scarce. Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five, who released their debut studio album 'The Message' in 1982 were inducted in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2007 -- the first year they were eligible -- while Run-DMC made the cut in 2009.

This is neither LL and the Beasties' first time being nominated. Winners will be announced in December with the 26th Annual Induction Ceremony taking place at the Waldorf Astoria in New York City on March 14, 2011. Inductees are then represented at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum in Cleveland, Ohio. If you've never been ... go. Let's just say, it's much more fun than spending a day at the Louvre.
