Shyne, who is currently banned from the United States and resides in Belize, recently spoke to SOHH.com about Def Jam's lack of interest in not only him, but in other artists as well. "The Def Jam thing is a question mark right now," he said. "I've been fixing to get up out of there for a while now because L.A. Reid don't care about hip-hop. The people up there, they don't know what they're doing. When you don't have a strong leader, where you gonna go? ... They don't care about hip-hop music."
The rapper blasted the label for only looking to promote artists on their roster who collaborate with R&B artists, name-checking The Roots, Nas and Ghostface Killah. He also addressed recent rumors that Reid had been fired from his position, claiming that there is truth to the gossip.
"I know he's been replaced -- so I wanna find out who's gonna take his spot before I decide what I'm gonna do with Def Jam," he said. "I'm not signed to Def Jam anyway, I just need to find another distributor."
Shyne expressed that he was interested in signing with Cash Money Records to distribute the music that he's amassed since he's gotten out of jail. "I'm definitely trying to get with Cash Money," he stated. "I might just have Cash Money do everything. Who knows? That's the beauty about being in the business for yourself. You can decide where you want to go and what you want to do."
