Lupe Fiasco Lashes Out at MTV Over Editorial

Lupe Fiasco has temporarily quelled his beef with Atlantic Records – fans can finally expect his long-delayed 'Lasers' album in March – but now the Chi-Town rapper has a bone to pick with MTV. His rage was apparently sparked by MTV's criticial piece 'Dear Lupe Fiasco: 10 Tips to Make 'Lasers' Successful,' which was posted on the Web on Thursday morning (Oct. 21).

Lupe took to Twitter just hours after the editorial was published to lash out at the television network, in a series of eleven tweets ... and counting. (Ranting isn't easy in 140 character bursts.) "Oh snap ... MTV (illuminati's favorite network) back on the attack ... why can't y'all just chill out? Salacious banality @ the speed of light? I think I've been very good natured with you," he began. "I personally know several employees of your company. You guys know me as well. I'm confused. Where is the true music journalism??? where is Suchin?!! What happened? Where are the honest critiques of cultural expression?"

Among the suggestions Fiasco took offense to were that he stop participating in supergroups, call Kanye West "like, NOW" for a contribution, and take cues from labelmate B.O.B., who was featured on the hit track 'Nothin on You,' after Fiasco passed up the opportunity.

"What are we supposed to be learning from you? What is your point?," a heated Lupe continued in his rant against MTV. "Do you have a point beyond corporate sponsored distraction? Your a materialistic shell of your former self that can only identify with celebrity pageantry and instant gratification. Corporate garbage pushing plastic lifestyles and wasteful, destructive behavior into the brains of the youth of the world."

Lupe, speaking for the general public, further exclaimed, "We want the REAL MTV back!," but noted that he wouldn't turn his back on the network. "So when your relevance thins in2 a whisper & the stock price collapses and you have 2 come 2 grips with the mess you made. I'll be here 4 ya," he wrote.

So far, MTV has made no comment about the scathing remarks. Lupe's 'Lasers' beams down on March 8, 2011.

Some of you are saying that this man is feeding our children garbage that is worse than corporate propaganda. Well, I am on his Ustream channel right now and he is speaking about how he wants to form book clubs associated in different areas for his fans. Each week he would announce a book on facebook and these fans would then meet once a week to speak about it, as well as on the internet to hear Lupe speak about it. The book this week, The Empire of Illusion: The End of literacy and Triumph of Society speaks about the downfall of literacy and reading in the world and the unfortunate rising of dumbed down media entertainment. This is actually a reoccurring theme in his music and one that has both lost him money and caused issues within his record label. So yea, he's really trying hard to dumb down our kids and should be locked up. He's trying to get them to read and think deeply about things they may not have thought of before. Shame on him, he's almost like a role model that is trying to educate these kids through a medium they enjoy. And I think that is just terrible.

Lupe will always go to MTV to sell his records he needs MTV more than MTV needs Lupe. MTV has opinion and was just giving it is all don't need to do as MTV says which Lupe isn't doing and glad that he fought tooth & nail with his record company to get what he wanted so good for him. MTV is a pretty good channel I like there reality shows what can i say I like trashy reality shows.

Rap and MTV are despicable, obscene and disgusting and DESTRUCTIVE beyond belief to children who should not be allowed to watch or listen to by any parent who is caring at all about having proper values and morals for their children. Rappers are pigs, to say the least. They are so illiterate, they can't even talk right or sing a decent word because they know none. Pigs. And, dumb record companies give them money to destroy children, how disgusting and immoral.

Your claims which are lies and shoving morals & ethics down peoples throat is wrong as well. I listened to Rap when I was a teen still do I didn't grow up wanting to do drugs or be violent because I listen to rap music and I had great decent parents I knew from right from wrong. Your being judgemental as well saying that parents shouldn't let there teens listen to rap. I will never tell my teen to not listen to rap if they like it great if not oh well.

Why is it that rappers all think they can just so or say what they want and be respected? I've never even heard of this guy and he thinks MTV and others should kiss his azz and tell him how great he is. He, Kanye and several others are just wannabes. No talent for music so they become rappers.

In my opinion, only stupid, simple -minded people blame rap for violence and drug use or whatever. I listen to rap and don't do drugs, and not violent at all.

Lupe is a wordsmith. I appreciate the realness and conciousness of his music. You should have to get on the mainstream bandwagon to be hot. I appreciate how he stays true to self and will always be a fan. He does Chicago proud. One should comment on his music if you haven't listened to it.
