Written by Karen Spencer and Roy Fegan and directed by Bille Woodruff ('Honey,' 'Bring It On'), the 2011 film focuses on one of the founding members of The Supremes, of which Flo was a member between 1959 and 1967. Drawing from Peter Benjaminson's book 'The Lost Supreme,' the biopic traces her life from the beginning to her untimely end, which came in 1976 when she suddenly died from a heart attack at 32 years old.
Flo's daughters Michelle, Nicole and Lisa are overseeing the film's development, having picked Evans for her personal experiences in the industry as well as her resemblance to their mother. The film will be filmed in Atlanta, Ga. and released in the summer of 2011, with Lauryn Hill, Kelly Price and Evans on the soundtrack.
"Not only is this about re-birthing Florence Ballard's legacy and giving her the accolades that she has deserved for 34 years, it also offers her children an opportunity to know their mother better and celebrate her life," said Spencer.
