The 'For Colored Girls' and 'Why Did I Get Married Too?' star told Larry King in a recent interview that, while her musical career has been put on the "back burner" to make time for acting, her return is imminent.
"It's always been a dream of mine to [do consecutive films], so I kinda put music on the back burner for a second to do this," she said. "I will continue to do more films, but definitely I can't give up music. It's in my blood and I love, love, love performing, so I will make more music."
Her last album 'Discipline' was released in 2008, receiving good reviews from critics, though it was one of the least commercially successful albums of her career, and led to the singer parting ways with her new label, Island Records.
Jackson says she'll be taking her time this time around, in order to ensure that her next release is more inspired. "I've thought to go into the studio and just take my time, fool around ... next year," she told King, also revealing that she'd "love to" work on a musical film at some point, as well.
'For Colored Girls' is currently in theaters.
