Rihanna, Christina Aguilera Too Risky for British Primetime?

Bauer-Griffin

Rihanna and Christina Aguilera are under fire for their racey performances on the finale of British talent search 'The X Factor.' The performances took place on Dec. 11, the night before Matt Cardle was crowned the winner, but since then the British broadcasting regulator Ofcom and the show's network, ITV, have received almost 4500 complaints, prompting an investigation into the show's finale.

Both females wore lingerie-like outfits, but provocatively shook their hips a little too much for the nearly 20 million viewers watching. Although the finale aired at the 7-9PM slot, before what the U.K. calls the "watershed" hour or 9PM outset for adult content, ITV and the show face the possibility of being slapped with fines, if found guilty for breaking section 1.3 of the British broadcasting code. The rule charges that "children must be protected by appropriate scheduling from material that is unsuitable for them."

Rihanna's performance recalled Britney Spears' 'I'm a Slave 4U' snake spectacle at the 2001 MTV Video Music Awards. The Bajan beauty took off a striped tunic mid-song and showed off her curves to the oh-na-nas of her current hit single 'What's My Name?' Aguilera and her dancers, on the other hand, looked more like strippers during her performance of 'Express,' but it was in a similar vein of Xtina's winter blockbuster 'Burlesque,' off which the song is featured. Check out the videos below and decide for yourself if U.K. viewers are overreacting ... or not.

DLCTYD - It's true that parents should monitor what their children watch, but you wouldn't expect (or at least SHOULDN'T expect) to see half naked women on a talent show. If it were The Jerry Springer Show or some other trash then I can see blaming it on the parents for allowing their children to watch it... but a talent show?? Really?? It is extremely sad that this has become acceptable. Just because there have been "racier" things on TV doesn't mean that things like this should just slide by. It's because we keep saying "no big deal" to everything that TV becomes more trashy by the minute.

This is true of Beyonce who shaves hers pubes and gyrates in her one piece bodysuit. These women are not ladies and not classy. They may as well be called whores because they act as tastelessly as one,and they're getting paid.

People are pointing the finger at the performers but in reality, they should point the finger at the X Factor show in general. How are they going to blame the artists for such inappropriate wardrobe when they asked them to perfom for their show? They are the ones that wanted Rihanna and Christina to perform...and HELLO! Rihanna's song isn't G-rated to begin with so why would her wardrobe of choice be something NOT sexy? (For those who may not know her lyric "hey boy I really wanna see if you can go downtown with a girl like me" is talking about oral sex) Also Christina's song is called Burlesque...the title says it all. What she's wearing matches the name of the song and I'm assuming they didn't see her recent movie out there *shrug*.
All I'm saying is that the British are blaming the wrong people.

Both performances were ok by me, and I too am a 63 year old grandmother. Both are talented with great voices. They didn't do anything that Britney Spears and Madonna (for decades) have done. Spears and Madonna could only hope to have half the voices these 2 have. Guess the Brits don't mind similar performances as long as they can't sing.

Umm. Everybody is looking at this as a sexual thing doesnt that make you just as bad as a prude looking down upon it?
I on the otherhand have a background in art's. if you even look in a bible you see fully unclothed woman & men. Even if they had a leaf over there privates (Adam&Eve. People could use there imagination to make it seem provacotive or make anything look that way.
But when it comes down to it. If your afraid of something your gunna try to push that fear on somebody else........
