Teena Marie Dead at 54

R&B songstress Teena Marie passed away Sunday (Dec. 26). She was 54-years-old. Details of the singer's death are scarce but she reportedly passed away in her sleep and was discovered in her Los Angeles home by her daughter Alia Rose AKA Rose LeBeau. Marie's passing was first discovered by journalist/author Roland Martin, who took to Twitter to report on the sad news. The singer's publicist, Jasmine Vega, eventually confirmed reports. Marie's manager, Mike Gardner, also confirmed her death to CNN.

Born Marie Christine Brockert -- Teena Marie, famously known as Rick James' protegee, rose to fame in the late 70s and 80s. The Grammy nominated singer-songwriter released her debut 'Wild and Peaceful' via Motown Records in 1979. The album featured 'I'm a Sucker for Your Love,' Marie's first Top Ten hit, but Lady T would go on to have many more hits, including 'Square Biz,' 'Lovergirl' and 'Ooo La La La.'

Marie's career spanned four decades. She released 13 albums, including 2009's 'Congo Square.' 'Congo Square' was a nod to an area in the Treme section of New Orleans where slaves would gather in the 18th century to perform. Marie collaborated with her daughter Alia Rose on the project and also teamed with Faith Evans, MC Lyte and Shirley Murdock. Marie would spend much of 2009 and 2010 touring in support of 'Congo Square' while tossing her many hits.

Lady T...When I first started listening to you I was 5'1 105 lbs of fun and liked sophisticated funk, they called me Ms. Nena Ross the mens boss. I lived on Malt Duck, Brandy, Remy Martin and Lee's Catering Prawns & Fries. I drove a Black & Gold 76 Mustang and thrived on "Can It Be Love". Now that I am older it is love? It Is God's Love! You brought me much wisdom, experience and knowledge at such a young age. RIP with all the other legends. You Have earned your wings! Angel Girl

My precious Teena Marie....you don't know how much you touched my life. I have all of the music you ever released. The words you used in all your songs were as unique as you were. You made your mark on this world and touched many hearts. Your concerts were always fun and you always put on a good show. You were such a talented singer/songwriter unequalled in this world. Your voice was beautiful and it matured as you did making your voice even better through the years.All the songs you wrote were unique and special because you were such a superstar. Why did God take you away from us so soon? You prayed for everyone all the time and were grateful for all the blessings God gave to you. Your soul will be carried by angels straight into God's heart. You touched my soul in a way no other artist has. I will cherish your autographed picture that is framed in a red matte in a picture frame. I loved you Lady T, all these years. I loved to get your tweets. It made me feel closer to you like they were especially written for me(even though I know it went out to all of your many fans.)Your music always put me in a good mood because your voice was so very beautiful and perfect, reaching those high notes and low notes reflecting your range. All of December 2010, I was listening to a lot of your music in my car, my mp3 player, my iPod, my computer, and my home stereo. So I think God was trying to tell me something. Hear my prayers and know that you are included in them. Knowing you are in God's hands is comforting to me but your earthly presence will be greatly missed. I will cry for you forever.
It hurt to hear of your passing and that hurt will NEVER go away.

No amount of tears can ever be shed enough for this talented entertainer.She touched my heart like no other singer has ever done. She was my favorite artist and I will cherish the autographed picture of Congo Square she sent me this year. I heard she just finished a new cd. Anyone know when it will be released? I just loved me some Teena Marie. She will never be forgotten in my heart. My prayer go out to her and her family. She was a truly talented musician, singer, and aranger. I am still in shock and all I am doing is listening to her music and crying, She touched heart.Miracles Need wings to Fly.

I am devasttated by the news of Teena's passing away. It brole my heart to hear it. I feel sad, hurt, and alsmost despomdent because I was in love with Teema's voice and music. She was my favorite artitst and will always be.May she she fly to the to heavens with angels. There will always be a tear in my eye for thiswonderful woman who touched my heart like not other singer has ever done. I Love you Teena.
