Shorty, born Rentta Lowe, was shot and killed last Monday (Dec. 20) in a double homicide near Downman Road in New Orleans East. Lowe was in a car with her associate Jerome "Man Man" Hampton, 25, when it was riddled with bullets. According to reports, both she and the driver were hit with several gun shots, before crashing their car into a gate of a nearby apartment complex. Both were pronounced dead at the scene, and while police continue to try and solve the case, suspects have revealed that the murderer drove a white Crown Victoria with tinted windows. Police have no suspects nor motive for the murder.
Lowe was once signed to Cash Money Records and grew up in the Magnolia housing projects with members of the Hot Boys rap group, who were also her labelmates. She released her debut on the label in 1995 and was said to be working on her sophomore release. Upon hearing the news of her death, Lil Wayne posted his condolences via his Twitter page. "R.I.P to my big sister Magnolia Shorty ... this is a krazy world," he wrote.
Police have yet to uncover a motive for the murder and have no suspects.
