Now, there's news from the film's director, Adam McKay, that he is currently working with Ferrell and Reilly on a legitimate 'Step Brothers' rap album. "Are we currently working on a Step Bros rap album? Yup," he tweeted, earning a storm of comments both positive and negative about the potential project.
Many thought the original missive from McKay was a joke, but he quickly clarified with yet another comment. "I wasn't kidding," he wrote. "And we just found out we have a crazy big time producer. Mos Def, you up for a guest flow?"
Lending some credence to the album claim, Ferrell and Reilly recently reunited for near-identical spoof of the David Bowie/Bing Crosby Christmas video where they sing 'Little Drummer Boy' around a piano. This was another hit for the duo as it captured exactly what was funny and creepy about the original clip.
Ferrell has a long history of singing in his parts. He's used his vocals for laughs in movies such as 'Old School,' 'Elf' and 'Anchorman.' Reilly was, of course, in the Johnny Cash biopic spoof 'Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story.'
