The college network's picks include the ubiquitous Kanye West alongside hip-pop phenom B.o.B, Shady Records signee Yelawolf and 'Black and Yellow' rapper Wiz Khalifa.
Though Kanye has been an awards show mainstay since his 2004 debut, this year he will be competeing with some of the Internet's biggest stars, including Die Antwoord, Lil B, Das Racist and TheBoomBox favorite Yelawolf for the Left Field Woodie, which honors the "Most Original" artist.
B.o.B battles fellow rapper Wiz Khalifa and some of the biggest names in indie rock -- the Black Keys, LCD Soundsystem and Arcade Fire -- for the Woodie of the Year, which is given to the year's "best" artist.
"mtvU is like home to me," B.o.B said of his selection. "This nomination is both an honor and a pleasure." Other hip-hop-related nominees include Chiddy Bang, Gorillaz and Duck Sauce (featuring Kanye's DJ A-Trak) who will all compete for Best Video Woodie.
The winners will be determined by the fans, who can begin voting today. Performers and presenters will be announced shortly.
