After accepting a plea deal last week, Tru Life has been officially sentenced for the 2009 shooting that left one man dead in New York city's Murray Hill neighborhood. The rapper, who was once linked to Jay-Z, pleaded guilty to one count of gang assault in the second degree in court today and was sentenced to eight years in prison.

In 2009, Tru and his brother Marcus Rosado, who was charged with manslaughter for his involvement, and will reportedly serve 10 years, got into a brawl with two other men at the New York nightclub Pacha, which eventually led them outside a Murray Hill apartment building where Christopher Guerrero was stabbed to death. Another man was wounded and hospitalized.

Tru was signed to Jay-Z's Roc-A-Fella label and released two studio albums -- 'Cryin' Out Loud' and 'Ghetto Inmates' -- with under Jay's old imprint.
