The anticipated documentary 'Beats, Rhymes & Life: The Travels of A Tribe Called Quest' premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in January, despite the controversy between the film's director Michael Rapaport and Tribe frontman Q-Tip. Now, the film, has been officially picked up by Sony Pictures for distribution.

Sony Pictures and Rapaport announced the news on Thursday (Mar. 10) in a press release. "I couldn't be more excited and proud that BEATS, RHYMES & LIFE: THE TRAVELS OF A TRIBE CALLED QUEST is being distributed by Sony Pictures Classics," Rapaport said. "As a first time filmmaker to have the support of SPC is like being signed by the NY Yankees. Telling this story was not only a labor of love, but also the most fulfilling accomplishment of my career."

Back in December, shortly after the documentary's trailer appeared online, Q-Tip took to Twitter to announce that he would not "support" the film. The Queens emcee, also one of the flick's producers, explained that he was speaking on behalf of the group, when he said that the film was not yet polished enough for release.

Phife Dawg was the only A Tribe Called Quest member to attend the film's Sundance premiere.
