Attempting mainstream success with 'Lasers,' which was released on Tuesday, resulted in a deep depression for Fiasco, whose label initially rejected the album, claiming he did not know "how to do what Kanye does." With the follow-up, Lupe said he's returning with a "hood album," whose title is a reference to his acclaimed debut 'Food & Liquor.'
"There's no attempt to get on the radio, except maybe once, thus far, it's still a work in progress," he told MTV News. "It's a harder album -- the beats are way harder. It's not about being progressive. It's not about making music, which is weird [to say]. It's 'let's make some really hard-ass songs."
Lupe spit the intro to the album back in November, and says that the content will be most similar to a diss record he released last year entitled 'S.L.R. (Super Lupe Rap).' That album was a response to Soulja Boy, who made the comment that he didn't want to be "super-Lupe-Fiasco-lyrical and n----s don't know what the f--- I'm talking about."
"It's not an attempt to remake 'Food & Liquor,'" Lupe concluded. "It's not any attempt to reshape it or reintroduce it. I just think 'Food & Liquor' was a dope title and I wanted to use it again."
Meanwhile, 'Lasers' hit shelves Tuesday and is projected to sell over 200,000 copies in its first week.
