AllHipHop.com reports that the company acquired the label, founded in 2008 to scout, market and develop new talent. Roc Nation is believed to have placed the top bid for the label, which was said to be of interest to major labels like Universal Records and Jive Records. Black Starz Music revealed that they would be involved in spotting and developing new talent with Roc Nation.
Back in 2008, Jay-Z and Live Nation partnered together to launch Roc Nation, which is not only a record label but a management company as well. The entertainment imprint includes artists, songwriters and producers, all sharing in several different business ventures such as touring, merchandising and film and television opportunities. Artists on the Roc Nation label partake in full-rights deals which include revenue from ticket sales, record sales, and other endorsements.
In the past few months, the company has signed a slew of big names included Rihanna, who is managed by the company, Jay Electronica, J. Cole, Willow Smith and most recently Santigold and New York DJ Mick Boogie.
