Uncle Luke Makes Run for Miami Mayor Official

Last month, news spread of Luther "Uncle Luke" Campbell's taking an even deeper dive into the politic tank. Now, the former member of controversial hip-hop group 2 Live Crew is one of dozens to file the necessary paperwork to run for mayor of Florida's Miami-Dade County, hoping to improve the quality of life the section of the Sunshine State.

While filing to have his name placed on the May 24 special election ballot, the 50-year-old ex-rapper spoke to a crowd on taking the job seriously. "My major hurdle is people taking me seriously, a lot of people think this is a joke," he said. "I call it a banana republic and I'm serious about it. You look at the commission and they make their own rules as they go, regardless of what the county attorney says, they make their own rules, just do what they want. They have no respect for the people."

Campbell outlined his plans if he were elected mayor, focusing on revitalizing the small business environment, redeveloping the area by stabilizing neighborhoods and beautifying the visual aesthetic of the county. Additionally, he voiced his public safety concerns by proposing to build stronger links between the law and community, as well as provide affordable housing and encourage adults to engage with the youth.

The shift in careers may come as a surprise to those familiar with 2 Live Crew. Founded in 1985, the group offered explicit content and images with their albums, while their 1989 offering 'As Nasty As They Wanna Be' become one of the first LPs to get a Parental Advisory sticker for its graphic content.

Luke's a very handsome man. I know he would make a find mayor. My friend lives in Miami and I am going to ask her and her sons to vote for him.
Like I said before, nobody could be worst than George Bush, nobody.

If dumb-ass George Bush can be president for two terms, any other person living and breathing in America can run for office. Bush proved that you don't have to be a genius to hold any kind of office. Mr. Luke would probably make a find mayor or governor or president, who knows, right.

loll As opposed to rappers, I am a actual musician. Yes, I actually play musical instruments. One of my best friends is a gansgsta rapper. A family guy. He dislikes the hateful lyrics too, but he says that's whats selling so he does em. loll Go figure. But, he isolates it from his kids. Do you? Ive never heard this guys lyrics. But if I fire some up.. and I hear hateful crap, then you both have been invalidated. Cause that's what you will get for mayor.

Ouch. When rappers become rich and get out of the getto, they never change the lyrics. They stay in the getto. It's somebody with not enough sense to clean up their act and give positive messages after the fact. Michel Vick is a perfect example of someone who did not shake his getto roots. Wonder what this guys 'associates' are like, and do you think he is gonna give em the cold shoulder?

Hope he is smart enough to tackle the real hard issues. Not only be in touch with the minorities in the county.

amp - Unfortunately, it seems to come with the territory. Hopefully he won't be like Mayor Villaraigosa of Los Angeles who won the election because of the Hispanics who voted for him and now members of the City Council, the School Board, and other public positions are majority Hispanic. As a (Hispanic) writer of the L.A. Times said recently when reporting that retiring Cardinal Roger Mahony's replacement was Hispanic, "We have come full circle. Now all of the major positions of L.A. County are held by Hispanics." Can you imagine a white person saying that?
