Cowell, who will executive produce the reality singing competition, revealed that the mother-to-be will be involved in the show, but failed to announce her as an official judge. "I think Mariah will have a role on the TV live shows," Cowell said in a radio interview with host Jackie Brown."I met her recently and she was in great form."
Carey is of course nine months pregnant and due to give birth to twins any day now, so the idea of her juggling judging duties with motherhood may be wishful thinking. The singer will however be involved in some capacity. "Her idea was to be the judge of the judges, which only Mariah could come up with," Cowell continued. "She'll be involved in some form. I literally adore her. I love her to bits."
Joining the show will reunite Carey with longtime friend and former boss L.A. Reid, who has been confirmed as a judge. The other two slots however are still up for grabs, with the likes of Nicki Minaj and Rihanna named as possible contenders for the job. While Rihanna has put the rumors to rest, explaining that scheduling conflicts restricted her from signing on, Minaj has been coy about her response. "Um, I don't know," she told the BoomBox when asked of her involvement.
'The X Factor' is set to air on Fox this September.
