'Number 1' chronicles the lives of Richard and Joseph, Liberian amputees and victims of the African nation's Civil War, who still managed to organize a championship soccer team. The documentary, part of ESPN's 'E:60' series, first aired on May 4, 2010. The irony that Nas, one of hip-hop's most storied MCs, has been nominated for Grammy Awards and has yet to ever win -- but has earned an award for his work in television -- isn't lost on the rapper.
"After all these years of making music, I am honored to have this be the first award I ever won of this magnitude," Nas told the NY Post of his award. "An Emmy before a Grammy. Crazy [bleep]!"
Hova scored an Emmy Award this year himself for his performance of 'Run This Town' at Superbowl XLIV.
Nas' last album was 2010's 'Distant Relatives,' a collaborative project with reggae artist Damian "Junior Gong" Marley. The rapper is said to be working on his 10th solo album and has reportedly been in the studio with singer, Odd Future affiliate and Def Jam labelmate Frank Ocean.
