The respected singer will be joined by jazz legend Roy Ayers, West Coast rap pioneer Too Short and southern hip-hop heroes Bun B, 8-Ball & MJG and several more, in celebration of the life of one of hip-hop's fallen icons, who was gunned down on Sept. 13, 1996, at the age of 25.
Hosted by Tupac's mother, political activist Afeni Shakur, and comedian Mike Epps, the third annual Tupac birthday celebration will take place at the Atlanta Symphony Hall, where, in addition to the musical performances, actress Jasmine Guy will dedicate a special video tribute to the slain rapper, with music provided by DJ Drama.
"I am greatly honored to have been invited by Afeni Shakur to celebrate her son's 40th birthday," Erykah Badu said in a statement about the benefit. "I do not take this honor for granted."
June 16 was officially proclaimed "Tupac Day" in Dekalb County, at last year's benefit, which featured performances by Bun B, Rick Ross and Too Short.
Tupac's 40th birthday celebration takes place on June 16, at 8PM, at the Atlanta Symphony Hall. Proceeds from the event will benefit the Tupac Amaru Shakur Foundation for the Arts in Stone Mountain, Ga.
